I'm setting up a branch of the service in Fort William aiming to cover Oban as well, after the consultant there left some time ago.
There are some challenges to getting a pain management service going in the West of the Highlands - to provide as good a service as in the East.
That's why I want to establish online resources for people with pain AND for Doctors, Physios and other health care professions.
Hi - I'm Dr Steve Gilbert - I've worked as a pain specialist and anaesthetic consultant since 1997.
I was very privileged to be appointed as the Scottish National Lead Clinician on Chronic Pain in 2011.
In 2016 I went to work in Townsville, North Queensland in Australia.
Due to COVID, it's become too difficult to travel and I've been really lucky to be appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine at the Belford Hospital in Fort William.
In 2021 we will aim to establish online pain management programmes and an ongoing education resource for primary care.
